2018
California Young Reader Medal
PICTURE Book Grant

The VCRA Book Grant program promotes student enjoyment of popular literature through access to California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) books and voting.  VCRA will select four schools to receive a library-bound set of the eight books nominated for the California Young Reader Medal in the categories of Primary Picture Books and Picture Books for Older Readers. Applications are due November 30, 2017.

Every year, children throughout California nominate, read and vote for books to win the California Young Reader Medal.  This unique program, designed to foster young people’s interest in popular literature, is supported by the Ventura County Reading Association and the California Reading Association

Applicants must outline a plan for reading the CYRM books to at least 100 students within the school.  All books from at least one category (Primary Picture Books OR Picture Books for Older Readers) must be read.  There are five books nominated in the Primary Picture Books category, and three books in the category of Picture Books for Older Readers.  The applicant need not personally read the books to all 100 students.  The plan might include a collaborative effort among teachers at particular grade levels, parent volunteers, and/or a school librarian.

The plan must also include the process by which these 100 (or more) students will vote for their favorite book and submit their ballots to the CYRM program by April 1, 2018.

Applications are due on or before November 30, 2017.  APPLY FOR THE CYRM PICTURE BOOK GRANT TODAY

** NOTE: You must be a current member of VCRA to apply for this grant. Membership Application

Impact II Grants
(Ventura County Office of Education)

Congratulations Jennifer Dobbie - VCRA's 2017 Impact II Grant winner

The purpose of IMPACT II is to spread excellent teaching ideas throughout our county. Recognizing innovative teachers at the awards dinner is an opportunity to celebrate the true heroes and heroines in our communities. Over the years Ventura County IMPACT II has matured into the program that we envisioned at its inception. In partnership with business leaders, teachers, and administrators more people are becoming aware of the program and are participating in unprecedented numbers.

IMPACT II is cost effective. The County Education Office funds the day-to-day operation of IMPACT II, so contributions go directly to teachers and classrooms for student projects. IMPACT II puts cutting edge classroom projects into the mainstream, turning students on to learning.

IMPACT II enables excellent teaching ideas to reach all teachers in the county, and raises community awareness of exemplary classroom practices. IMPACT II boosts teacher morale by recognizing innovative teaching as well as enhancing teacher professionalism through local/national training and teacher presentations.
